Overseas Fellowships

The department of Allergy has a long and successful history of providing education and training opportunities for visiting fellows from across the world. The presence of comprehensive facilities for both clinical and laboratory allergy in adult and paediatric subspecialities make KCL one of only a tiny number of UK centres able to provide such comprehensive exposure to the speciality in the UK. Our central London location and high profile academic reputation also makes our centre a highly attractive venue to doctors around the world.

We are now providing 3, 6 and 12 month programmes for fellows in either Adult or Paediatric Allergy which combine clinical training opportunities with exposure to clinical or laboratory based research programmes. Fellows may either be self funding or sponsored. Details of the fellowship programmes and the associated fees can be obtained by visiting  www.guysandstthomasevents.co.uk/vpp/ or by emailing: vpp@gstt.nhs.uk

In the late April 2009, as an overseas visiting doctor, I had a very good opportunity to work in the pediatric allergy department at St Thomas’ Hospital, for a period of five and a half months. I had a fantastic experience of working there.

The learning experience in St Thomas Hospital was very helpful for my professional career. I plan to do the skin prick test, food challenge and sublingual immunotherapy in our hospital in the future, which we do not do now. I think these work will be benefit for patients.

My favorite part was participating in the joint clinic: allergist and GI doctor; allergist and a dermatologist; allergist and ENT doctor. Joint clinic will help diagnosis and treatment of difficult cases.
